What is the Farmobile Index?
The current Farmobile Index is the first-ever crop progress and benchmarking tool crowd-sourced by and for farmers with ground-truthed data, not based on survey information. The Index is offered exclusively to Farmobile data subscribers. This new value-added tool — currently FREE with every Farmobile subscription — is for both Planting and Harvest.
The Farmobile Index provides customers with never-before-seen insights on planting and harvest, as it happens. In the 2020 Farmobile Index, users can view state-level, aggregated totals for planted acres and harvest acres/yield and compare what’s happening in real-time on the ground versus USDA/NASS’ reported estimates. (The Farmobile Index for harvest will be available for the first time to subscribers in Fall 2020.) To view the Farmobile Index, subscribers must have signed the Equipment Lease and Data Upload Agreement.
How was the Farmobile Index developed?
The concept was beta-tested last Fall and launched during the 2019 ProFarmer Midwest Crop Tour, hosted by Farm Journal Media. The Farmobile Index for Plant and Harvest was based on feedback, insights and key learnings generated by beta participants.
What information can I find in the Farmobile Index for Planting?
You can view aggregated planting results by state generated by Farmobile PUC device users. Users can select an individual or a group of states and define date ranges. They can also compare results against USDA-NASS estimates. (NOTE: Only data totals, aggregated at the state level, are used for Index insights. Absolutely NO identifiable farm data or individual Electronic Field Records are shared.)
What information can I find in the Farmobile Index for Harvest?
In the Fall of 2020, you will be able to view total aggregated harvested acres/yield by state, generated by Farmobile PUCTM device users. Users can select results for an individual or a group of states and define date ranges. They can also compare results against USDA-NASS estimates. (NOTE: Only data totals, aggregated at the state level, are used for Index insights. Absolutely NO identifiable farm data or individual Electronic Field Records are shared.)
How is the Farmobile Planting Index updated?
The aggregate data used in the Farmobile Index is collected from customers through the Farmobile PUCTM device. Only data totals, aggregated at the state level, are used for Index insights. Absolutely NO identifiable farm data or individual Electronic Field Records are shared. User control over data is strictly protected by Farmobile’s data privacy and permissioning protocols established in the Equipment Lease and Data Upload Agreement and the Trusted Advisor Agreement. The Farmobile Index was created to benefit Farmobile subscribers by providing “first-to-know” insights. The results are NOT intended for public use.
The Farmobile Index is updated at the end of each day. When you log in to the Farmobile DataEngineSM platform each morning, you will see the updated numbers from the previous day.
How often are the USDA reports updated?
The USDA Planting Progress report is published every Monday. Once the reports have been published, Farmobile will update the USDA reported percentage completed. Refer to the USDA publication for scheduled reports.
Why can I only see select states?
In order for state data to be published, there must be at least three Farmobile customers or enough acres to be published. As the season progresses, users will see more states and higher acre counts represented in the Planting Index.
How do I select only certain state’s data to view?
Simply click on the state(s) for the data you would like to view. The next time you log in to the Index, the previously-selected states will be saved. If you would like to re-select, click on the state and the report will appear again.
What is Farmobile’s policy on data ownership?
Farmobile policies are rooted in the core belief that farmers are the owner(s) of their farm data. This means that farm data owners control the destiny of their data. Only the data owner has the right to share, download and delete their farm data. Farmobile will never release or display farm data to any unapproved third-parties without the owner’s permission. How can I gain access to the Farmobile Index?
This is an exclusive offering to Farmobile subscribers only through the Farmobile DataEngine website & application. Can I export these reports?
The Farmobile Index does not contain an export feature. The Farmobile Index was created to benefit Farmobile subscribers by providing “first-to-know” insights. The results are NOT intended for public use.
How can I opt my data out of the Index?
Farmers, who do NOT want their data included in the Farmobile Index, should reach out to the Farmobile Support team at support@farmobile.com.
